Robert W. McCarley, M.D. Professor and Head Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry Associate Director, Mental Health Service VA Boston Healthcare System

Dr. Robert W. McCarley received his bachelors degree from Harvard College and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He interned at Brigham & Women's Hospital and completed his residency at the Massachusetts Mental Health Center. He is currently Professor and Chair of the Harvard Medical School Department of Psychiatry and Associate Director of Mental Health at the VA Boston Healthcare System.

Dr. McCarley has been widely recognized and honored for his research in basic cellular neurophysiological and anatomical studies related to the control of behavioral states of sleep and wakefulness and for his neuroimaging studies in schizophrenia. He has received the top research prizes of the US Sleep Research Society, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American Psychiatric Association, and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. He has published more than 275 peer-reviewed papers, and has received consistent peer reviewed funding from the US NIH and VA Medical Research Service.
